One thought that occurs to me, is that if you are using some options that multiplies meld, say dynamic war or such, perhaps the alien resources are very low, and would normally generate the minimum amount, and that minimum amount might be equal to 11 after being. The rewards were not worth the grief by a LONG stretch. I played it a few times (doesn't show up so often for me because it's also the Van Doorn map) and it had proper meld, each and every time. Meld generally reflects the state of Alien resources, higher resources more meld. Youre better off prepping to kill every pod on the map before they expire than trying to get to them before they expire. Harder Abductions spawn more but, given the Nature of Long War youll activate every alien on the map getting them. I'm even lucky that most of my squad was on overwatch and the Mechtoid got dropped first so that they unloaded on it instead of wasting all their shots on a Sectoid. My 0.02 is that I get anywhere between 3-1 cannisters per mission. That's right, five Sectoids and TWO whole Mechtoids, ALL of them on overwatch right when they drop! It was a death sentence, and a wonder I got out of it with only two caualties. Aliens beamed down right ON TOP of your squad every third round, and what did this particular airdrop consist of? It's a very narrow map, with occasionally very little cover, and on the narrowest part of it right after an extended firefight that had drained my magazines, I was doing the conga line tactic (as a lot of players do in between firefights) so I could reload in peace without triggering extra pods ahead of me, but the mission wouldn't have it. You also get so much meld from all the Base Assault, missions, I think its 50+ per base. You get 1 meld for every 5 intact corpses, so you can often get 2 or more meld for a simple mission. The dam mission was the biggest pile of bollocks I have ever experienced playing LW XCOM, and it tempted me to savescum like no other mission before, or since. The good thing is, if you arent overfond of explosives, you should get a steady trick of meld from missions. It was a nightmare.īut even that was nothing next to the piece of work that was Progeny. The map is tough enough, being long and with very weird line of sight workings (your soldiers won't always be able to see a Muton that's standing on the train right on top of them), and LW has increased that difficulty by a lot because it drops tough enemies (for your tech level) on you on a scenario where you have to keep moving on a narrow path (the train). But on the second mission you have to keep moving, which makes it almost impossible. During the final mission you can take your time and that makes it much, much easier. I don't know about other difficulties, I'm playing on Brutal (no Ironman just honestman), and, well, both the DLCs were tough, Progeny much more than Slingshot.Ĭonfounding Light (the second Slingshot mission) was the hardest of that DLC for me.
